Do Robotics Lab

Brian Do is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering Department and a member of the Collaborative Robotics and Intelligent Systems Institute. He leads the Do Robotics Lab, which explores the design, modeling, and control of innovative robotic systems. Before joining Oregon State, he was a postdoctoral researcher in Mechanical Engineering at Yale University working with Prof. Rebecca Kramer-Bottiglio. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University with Prof. Allison Okamura in 2023 and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 2017. He was named a Trailblazer in Engineering Fellow in 2023 and a Robotics: Science and Systems Pioneer in 2022. Outside of research, Prof. Do is passionate about outreach and broadening participation and engagement in STEM.

Nathan Jones is a PhD student in the Robotics program at Oregon State University. He received his BS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Florida in 2023 after which he worked as a lab technician at the University of Idaho. His research interests include growing robots.

Liv Dawes is a PhD student in the Robotics program at Oregon State University. They received their BS in Mechanical Engineering from Olin College in 2024. Their research interests include underwater robots.

Leah Hanen is an MS student in the Robotics program at Oregon State University. She received her BS in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University in 2020. She then attended the Aerospace Engineering Sciences MS program at CU Boulder before returning to Oregon State. Her research interests include soft robots for planetary exploration.

Tanner Wells is an MS student in the Robotics program at Oregon State University. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Mechatronics from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2024. His research interests include learning-based controls for soft robots and human-centered robot design.   

Vincent Villanueva is an MS student at Oregon State University. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University with a Minor in Naval Sciences in 2024 as well as a Post-Bacc in Asian Languages and Culture in 2024. His research interests include mechatronic design and the integration of rigid and soft robots.

Evan Butler is an MS student at Oregon State University co-advised with Dr. Cristina Wilson. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Arizona State University in 2025. His research interests include mechanism design and legged robots.

Mandy Mesirow is pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Materials Science at Oregon State University. She is a member of various clubs including the DAM Robotics Club and the Society of Women Engineers. Her research is on variable stiffness soft robots.

Tiffany Wu is pursuing a BS in Electrical Engineering and is a members of the Honors College. Her research is on miniaturizing vine robots.

Henry Stahl is pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in Aerospace Engineering. His research is on the design of vine robots.

Christopher Choi is pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering and is a member of the Honors College. His research is on the design of soft robots.

Meira Griffel is pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering with an option in robotics at Oregon State University, researching soft robotics for space exploration. Meira is mechanical lead of the DAM Robotics Mars Rover Team and member of Astronomy Club.

Ben Cantarero is pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering. His research is on electrostatic devices.

Angel Liu is pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Her research is on soft actuators.

Lex Roller is pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering. His research is on mechanism design.
